‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ star Andrew Garfield is to collaborate with the Oscar-winning director Mel Gibson to star in world war-II drama ‘Hacksaw Ridge’.
According to media reports, Mel Gibson is in talks to take on directing duties on based on ‘Hacksaw Ridge’, the true story of Desmond T Doss, the first conscientious objector in the U.S. history to win the Congressional Medal of Honor. Andrew Garfield is also in discussions to play the lead role.
Garfield is being eyed to play the lead role of Desmond T Doss. Doss was a U.S. Army medic who served in World War II during the ‘Battle of Okinawa’ and refused to kill or carry a weapon after being drafted in 1942. He saved 75 men during the battle and rescued the wounded near the enemy lines. He was later wounded twice during the battle and died in March 2006 at the age of 87.
‘Apocalypto’ was the last film Mel Gibson directed in 2006 meanwhile actor turned director Gibson will be seen next in ‘The Expendables 3’ and ‘Blood Father’, while Garfield will be seen in ’99 Homes’ opposite Michael Shannon, Noah Lomax and Laura Dem
