ISLAMABAD: The spokesman of Pakistan Railways, Saeed Akhtar on Friday said that Pakistan Railways is facing acute financial problems due to non-provision of financial resources by the government from the last four years.
While talking to VOA, he said that faulty engines are not being repaired due to lack of funds.
He said about 60 percent engines have become out of order. He said due to dearth of engines, Pakistan Railways is shutting down trains between small cities to keep them running between major cities of the country.
The spokesman of PR said that if PR has been paid finances timely, it would not have to face severe crisis.
He said the main reason of miserable condition of PR is maladministration, mismanagement of railway officials, besides their discouragement of reforms.
He said that railways needs 400 engines to overcome its deficit, adding that the government needs to make a huge investment in the organisation to save it from shutting down.
