Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has been condemning the barbaric terrorist attack on Army Public School in Peshawar. Bhatt’s mother was a Muslim Indian actress and his father Nanabhai Bhatt was Hindu .He said it was not a true picture of Islam because a true Muslim never hurts any person by their words and deeds.
According to Indian media reports Mahesh Bhatt quoted Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore during an interview,
“Tagore once had a profound conversation with a Bedouin tribesman whom he met in an Iraqi desert encampment. The Bedouin told him that the Holy Prophet described a true Muslim as someone whose words and deeds do not harm any person in any way, and here we have brother killing brother! Why is it that only a believer kills and not a non-believer? It’s a very strange thing”.
Bhatt has a close association with Pakistan and feels deep sympathy for the victims. He said, “I recently went to Pakistan on the occasion of Pakistan Day when a friend was honored. I saw that most of those being honored were policemen who died while fighting terror. Those receiving the awards were widows and children of these martyrs.
"It's time they stopped being in denial. They need to be gently nudged woken up and Militant Islam is never Islam”, he added.
The filmmaker said people in the country were confused as to whom the real enemy was and Pakistani leaders are powerless in the face of militant extremism.
