pepco-power-plantISLAMABAD: Director General of Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), Ejaz Rafique Qureshi on Tuesday said there is 17,000 MW demand across the country while last year it was 13,000 to 14,000 MW.

The DG, PEPCO said the government would soon overcome loadshedding in the country because 572 MW would be added to the new power plants in near future.

Besides that, four major projects would be completed soon including Dhepur 425 MW, Gaddo 750 MW, UAD gifted plant 320 MW and one in Faisalabad which would bring 2000 MW in the system.

To another question, he said that Tarbela extension project was under way which, on completion would generate power from 3478MW to 4828MW.

The DG said that Thar coal projects had been initiated to overcome the power crisis.

He said as many as 201,000 new power connections have been given to consumers of all categories i.e agri, commercial, industrial and domestic during last two years.
