ISLAMABAD: National Highway Authority (NHA) has been maintaining Taxila-Haripur Highway through Periodic Maintenance through its own resources and the NHA intends to improve the road to 7.3 meter wide asphaltic carriageway.
An official of the NHA said Friday that for this purpose, Periodic Maintenance contracts amounting to Rs.480.366 million have been awarded to various contractors.
He said that rehabilitation and upgradation of 43-km Taxila-Haripur Highway will boost trade, tourism, industry facilitate the people in their travel in the area. This highway starts at Taxila on Peshawar-Rawalpindi section of Grand Trunk Road (N-5) and reaches Haripur via Khanpur and this is an important link between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.About seven kilometre portion of this highway falls in the Punjab while its 36 kilometers portion falls in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
With the completion of this highway, links between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be strengthened that will improve trade and business activities in both the provinces,he said.
It is worth mentioning that this road was federalized in 2010 and declared a national highway.
