ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for planning, development and reforms Prof.Ahsan Iqbal has given a deadline of June 30, 2015 to Wapda to finish 400 km long phase I of Kachi Canal Project.
He assured to release Rs 7 billion soon for this project and directed Wapda to keep in touch with law enforcement agencies and administration in Balochistan to ensure security measures.
The Federal Minister would also take the matter at political level in Balochistan.
The total length of Kachi Canal Project is 500 km starting from Tounsa Barrage in Punjab and ends at Dera Bughti in Balochistan and will be completed in next two phases.
102000 acres of land would be irrigated by phase I of the project while the total area of land under irrigation by this project would be 713000 acres.
"With the completion of this project, an era of prosperity will usher for Balochistan", the minister added.
The Federal Minister chaired a meeting on Munda Dam which was attended by chairman wapda and Nespak. Speaking to the chairman of wapda, he said, "The work on Munda dam project of 800 mw hydropower was the victim of wrong flood estimates.
Wapda should take action against those who are responsible. Technical design should be completed at the earliest"
"All the approaching link roads of 13.5 km length starting from Golra Mor and crossing through G.T road, zero point and leading to New International Islamabad Airport should be completed by November this year", directed the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Prof. Ahsan Iqbal while chairing the meeting on overview of infrastructure development of projects here.
He also directed NHA to expedite the work on M-8 and N-85 to ensure their timely completion by June 2016. "Both of these sections of highways should be completed within next two years on priority which will also connect our existing infrastructure", he added. N-85 would connect Gwadar with Quetta via Turbat, Panjgore, Basima etc and M-8 will connect Gawadar with Ratodero via Turbat, Khushab, Khuzdar etc.
While emphasizing on the speedy work on Lowari tunnels he said, "Both tunnels of 8.5km and 1.9 km must be completed by 2017 to facilitate the people of Chitral to move easily throughout the country.
He directed Wapda to come up with scheme as to how Smec, Australian consultancy could be penalized or any other alternative so that the work on the construction of Munda dam can be expedited.
Acknowledging the youth bulge of the country, the Federal Minister also directed HEC to come up with PC-I of Skill University Islamabad which will be included in the next PSDP 2015-16 to promote skill oriented education and encourage entrepreneurship in Pakistan.
