imageHONG KONG: Shares in Shanghai fell on Friday, although baby-related firms rallied on news that China had scrapped its long-standing one-child policy.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index edged down 0.14 percent, or 4.75 points, to 3,382.56, but the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, edged up 0.02 percent, or 0.46 points, to 2,014.86.

The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong fell 0.79 percent, or 179.90 points, to close at 22,640.04.
