imageHYDERABAD: Like other parts of the country, Hindu community of Hyderabad celebrated Diwali on Wednesday. Diwali is a colorful festival involving lighting candles, worship, celebration and prayers.

Diwali, being the festival of lights, thousands of lamps are lit in and outside every home. 21 days after Dussehra comes the most awaited festival in Hindus" Diwali", celebrated as a day when Lord Rama returned home after his 14-year exile, it is definitely the brightest of all festivals.

Diwali is a five-day Hindu festival and during this time, homes are thoroughly cleaned and windows are opened to welcome Laksmi, goddess of wealth.

Candles and lamps are lit as a greeting to Laksmi. At daybreak, all celebrations end the people then visit friends and relatives and exchange sweets. Gifts are exchanged and festive meals are prepared during Diwali.

In Hyderabad, the Pandits and devotees held prayers session in different temples and prayed for integrity, solidarity and security of the country.

The Temples where prayers session were held included Jay Bhawani Tample (Hirabad), Rama Pir Temple (Mochi Muhallah Sirrighat), GuruNanik Temple (Tilak Incline), Kali Temple (Feteh Chowk), Valmek Temple (Tando Wali Mohammad, Haray Krishna Temple (Cant Area), Maa Durga Temple (Tando Wali Mohammad, Shankar Temple (Phulelli), Sain Baba Temple (Shahab Cinema) and Lakhsmi Mata Temple (Qasimabad).
