KARACHI: Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) is ready to host 13th My Karachi: Oasis of Harmony, an international trade exhibition here with expected participation of 10 countries.
The three-day international trade event will start from March 25, 2016 at Karachi Expo Centre.
274 stalls displaying a wide range of products will be set up in six halls, said Chairman of Businessmen Group at KCCI and former president KCCI Siraj Kassam Teli while briefing media on 'My Karachi: Oasis of Harmony' at KCCI on Friday.
He said KCCI started this event in 2004 on the advice of then president General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf to build image of Pakistan when the Western media was projecting Pakistan as a terrorist state and not a safe place for foreigners. This pushed away even foreign buyers and investors.
This not only provided with trade promotional activities like business-to-business meetings but different recreational activities for children and elder ones. There had been and will be no entry fee for general public. This year, the recreational activities will be enhanced, he said.
He said the organising this international trade exhibition proved very helpful in building the image of Pakistan. Over last 12 years, My Karachi also brought very good business to the country.
He explained that the title 'Oasis of Harmony' was selected for multi-ethnic, multi-religious and diversity of the population of Karachi. We do all this for the good of Karachi and its people, and the country.
On this occasion, Siraj Kassam Teli informed the media that KCCI had purchased 2600 square yards of land in Clifton for new secretariat of Karachi Chamber.
The construction work will be started soon and will be completed in next three years. President KCCI and Chairman of the My Karachi committee, Younas M. Bashir sought cooperation and support from the media to make 'My Karachi: Oasis of Harmony' as a very successful event.
To a question from media, Siraj Kassam Teli regretted that the issue of maintaining peace in Karachi had been politicized and advised the Federal and Sindh Governments, and the main political parties to keep peace and security of Karachi supreme while handling the issue of powers to the Rangers.
The life in the city had been returned to normalcy after hectic efforts of law enforcing agencies especially by the Rangers, he added.
