RAHIM YAR KHAN: As many as 80 cases of polio have been reported this year, including 34 from Balochistan, 31 from KP, 14 in Sindh,1 in G-B, but none from Punjab.
WHO representative in RY Khan,Dr Nasir Abidi stated this Thursday while addressing a meeting ahead of three-day preventive campaign against polio in the district from September 19-21.
"Although no case has been reported so far from Punjab but district Rahim Yar Khan is vulnerable as it borders Sindh and Balochistan, where cases have been reported," said Dr. Abidi.
Last year 144 cases of polio were reported from Pakistan, the highest in the last ten years.
"Pakistan, India, Afghanistan and Nigeria are the only four countries in the world where polio cases are being reported", he expressed with concern.
It may be mentioned that district RYK has remained polio free for the last six years as no new case was reported from this area.
