imageWindows 10, six months after its release has finally surpassed Windows XP.

According to Net Market Share, Windows 10 surpassed the 10 percent market share in January, and is currently installed on 11.9% of the world's PCs. XP had a 11.4pc share of the PC market, and Windows 8.1 was installed on 10.4pc of PCs.

In doing so Windows 10 now only sits behind the Windows 7 that enjoys a whooping market share of 52.5pc. Indicating that the Microsoft newest version, still has a long way to go.

According to CNN, since its entry into the market in late July last year, Windows 10 has enjoyed a remarkable run of success. It has become the fastest-adopted version of Windows, i.e. already installed on more than 200 million devices.

Microsoft is just not stopping here, and has predicted that Windows 10 will be on 1 billion devices by 2018.

One of the key reasons behind the Windows 10 quick adoption has been Microsoft's new upgrade strategy. Microsoft has allowed users running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 on their PCs to download Windows 10 for free.

It has also been a vastly improved version as compared to the previous ones, with modern features including Cortana voice assistant, a notification center and an improved Start menu.

According to Venture Beat, Windows 10 was installed on over 75 million PCs in the first month of its debut and has passed 110 million after 10 weeks. Last month, Microsoft latest version passed 200 million active devices.

The share of Windows 10 rose quickly from 9.96pc market share in December it gained 1.89 percentage points in January to hit 11.85pc.

Industry analysts predict that Windows 10 will begin to make a bigger push forward this year, despite PC sales slump, as corporations begin to upgrade their Windows 7 PCs.
