imageISLAMABAD: China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will create about 800,000 new job opportunities for skilled, semi-skilled and professionals.

The multi-billion dollar projects would equally benefit all the four provinces as well as Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, said an official of Planning Commission of Pakistan.

Talking to APP on Wednesday, he said short-term projects under CPEC would be completed by 2017-18 where as long-term developmental projects would be ready by 2020-2030.

He said fourteen electricity projects, having capacity of producing 10,400 MW of electricity would be completed by 2017 which would also help overcome the energy shortages in the country.

He said China and Pakistan were enjoying good relations and all political forces and different schools of thought have consensus on the development of the project and were on same page.

The completion of the project would revolutionize the social and economic sectors as about 10,000 Chines companies were working day and night to complete it at faster pace.

The Chines companies were also working on the improvement of transmission and distribution lines and coal fired power plants of 6,600 MW would also be set up in Thar to exploit huge reserves of coal, he added.

The economic corridor was an important step towards achieving economic development and prosperity particularly for Balochistan Province, he added.

He said improved law and order situation in the country has also encouraged the foreign investors, who intend to invest in different sectors of national economy.

He said the CPEC would help to enhance bilateral trade volume by 33 percent and it would also create opportunities to create trade links with other countries of the region for sustainable economic development.
