ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Secretary Establishment to propose doable suggestions regarding implementation of quota for federal and provincial police officers.
The court also rejected the government report and remarked that there were a lot of contradictions in the report.
The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim heard the case.
Justice Hani remarked that according to policy, 60 percent quota was specified for federal police officers and 40 percent for provincial officers. But in reality, the federal police officers got 80 percent posts denying the right to the provincial officers.
During the course of proceedings, Hamid Khan, counsel for employees, stated that the government allocated 40 percent quota for provincial police employees for Grade 18 and above employees.
The Establishment Division also submitted its report regarding promotion of police officers.
The report stated that provincial governments did not submit names of police officers for promotion on time due to which federal police officers got promotions.
Justice Hani remarked that the federation and provinces should themselves resolve the issue and form policy so that provincial police officers cannot be deprived of their right of promotion.
Later, hearing of the case was adjourned till May 18.
