Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani and his wife have not been issued travel documents for the Haj pilgrimage this year.
A spokesman of the Hurriyat Conference Ayaz Akbar said the Deputy Commissioner of central Kashmir district of Budgam when contacted said travel documents, including passport, visa and air ticket could not be issued in favour of Geelani and his wife.
Other pilgrims scheduled to leave for Jeddah on January four have been provided the requisite travel documents, Greater Kashmir reported on Friday.
Ayaz said this was the third time that Geelani was refused permission by the authorities to go on Haj.
He said this was a direct curb on the religious rights. About 40 other people, mostly from the Jamaat-e-Islami, have been denied permission by the authorities to perform Haj this year.
