The provincial Communication and Works Minister, Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-din has said that the government would ban on all those cinema and theatre halls which are involved in spreading vulgarity and obscenity by showing obscene films and presenting vulgar musical shows and dramas, respectively.
He was responding to an adjournment motion presented by Rana Sanaullah Khan in the Punjab Assembly here on Friday.
The minister pointed out that some cinema owners are also arranging obscene dramas and vulgar dances to earn more money however, they are overlooking the factor of damage, which they are doing to morale of society.
He added that situation in the rural areas was far worse than the urban areas, as the checks in these remote areas were far lenient.
He regretted that the trend of showing vulgar plays in the province has been on the increase.
Rejecting the point of view of the mover, the minister said that censor board is working at district level to check obscenity.
"It should be clear to everyone that the government is fully aware of the situation and intends to control it. Already the government has taken legal action against some cinema owners, artistes and script writers in this regard," he added. Further stressing his point, he quoted the incident of vulgar dance at a cinema house in Faisalabad, and said that the police have arrested the accused involved in the case.
The Speaker Chaudhry Afzal Sahi disposed of the motion when the mover did not press it after getting minister's assurance.
Meanwhile, the provincial Law Minister Basharat Raja tabled two bills - Punjab Education Foundation Bill 2003 and the Punjab Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Amendment) Bill 2003, in Punjab Assembly on Friday. Both the bills were referred to the concerned standing committees of the House for submitting report within seven days.
