Minneapolis Grain Exchange spring wheat futures closed mixed on Thursday in choppy trading, taking their cue from the volatile CBOT market, traders said.
MGE wheat closed 1/4 cent lower to 4 cents higher, with March down 1/4 at $4.06-1/2 per bushel.
Traders said trading volume was thin and the market continued to and flow as the speculator-driven Chicago market seesawed on both sides of Wednesday's settlement levels.
Estimated volume was 1,864 futures.
Pit sources said an upturn in wheat led to renewed floor talk that China might be in the market for US wheat and Egypt's GASC bought 60,000 tonnes of US SRW wheat for shipment during the first half of February.
GASC paid $162/tonne FOB. It last bought US white wheat on December 24 for $146.69/tonne FOB.
