The provincial government has constituted a three-member audit committee to audit of Rs 330 million spent during the process of census in 1998 all over the province out of which Rs 220 million were spent only in Rawalpindi Division.
The committee was directed to submit its report within one week.
Syed Attaullah Shah Hamdani, Audit Officer of Tehsil Municipal Administration will be its head to audit the funds provided by the government for census in the province.
These funds were spent on transportation, payment of census staff, stationery and other expenses.
Sources told Business Recorder that there were apprehensions of the embezzlement rather misuse of these funds during the course of census and that is the reason that government has directed the committee to complete its task as soon as possible and hand over the report to Chief Minister Punjab with in one week.
If any one found guilty in embezzlement or misuse of these funds he would be dealt with iron hands, the sources said.
