The Pakistan Cotton Fashion Apparel Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCFA) has said that the arrival of textile shipments at the European Union (EU) ports is higher than the export visa issued by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) during the 2003 quota year.
The PCFA Chairman, Dr Shahzad Arshad, said in a statement that according to the figures available at the EU website, the arrival situation as on January 2 in all categories was higher than the original utilisation of the quantities exported on the EPB visas.
He said that the higher arrival was more evident in the fast running or hot categories, which definitely needed to be sorted as to what was going on and what was the background of all.
Citing incidence of contrast in the two figures, the PCFA Chairman said that the arrival figures, obtained from the EU website, disclosed that the Category 6 (pants) had been utilised up to 97.95 percent by January 2, whereas the Quota Supervisory Council (QSC) website showed that utilisation of this category was 97 percent.
This clearly meant that the arrivals at the EU ports of entry had been higher, he said. Similarly, the arrival of the category 9 (towel) was shown at 95.80 percent on the EU website, but the QSC was showing its utilisation at 95.15 percent, he added.
He further said that in another fast running category-20 (bed linen), the EU's arrival figures stood at 99.17 percent as on January 2 whereas the QSC website showed its utilisation at 98.71.
He appealed to the Commerce Ministry to look into the matter and find out the reasons for this contrast in shipment figures.
