An Anti-Terrorism Court, Karachi, (ATC) on Tuesday convicted Attaullah and Mohammad Azam, activists of banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, and sentenced them to death in sectarian killing case.
ATC-V Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch on Tuesday announced the verdict in the Juvenile Jail, Karachi. The court also imposed a fine Rs 200,000 each. In case of non-payment of the fine the convicts have to get further one year jail term.
These activists of banned organisation were tried on charge of killing Hamid Ali Rizvi, in-charge of Hussaini Scouts, on September 1, 2001 in Clifton Area, Karachi.
The court, in its verdict, observed that prosecution proved the case against the accused without any reasonable doubts.
According to prosecution, the FIR was lodged in Clifton police station on September 1, 2002 that unidentified accused killed Hamid Ali Rizvi, father of Mehmood Rizvi, a Star TV's distributor in Pakistan near Zamzama area Clifton.
The prosecution, so far, examined 13 witnesses, including two eyewitness Karamullah and Sadiq. The court had reserved the judgment last week after hearing arguments of both side counsels.
M.R. Syed, advocate, appeared for accused while Special Public Prosecutor Mazhar Qayum represented the State.
