The Punjab government has decided to take stern action against the shopkeepers involved in sale of flour at higher price. In this connection necessary directions have been issued to all the District Co-ordination Officers (DCOs) of the province.
Punjab Food Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal expressed these views while presiding over a meeting of Price Monitoring Committee here on Tuesday.
The Minister said that sufficient stocks of wheat were available in the province and there was no shortage of wheat or flour in Punjab.
Action would be taken against those shopkeepers who are selling 20-kg bag of flour at over Rs 210 per bag.
Special sale points have also been set up in every district of the province and flourmills have been directed to supply 20-kg flour bags at the rate of Rs 203, he added.
He also said that steps were being taken to stabilise the price of onion and grain pulse, while more onion was being procured to meet the growing demand.
He directed the DCOs to keep vigilant eye over the prices of essential commodities and take strict action against the profiteers.
