Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) Acting President and Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed has announced to start countrywide mass contact campaign against the government policy on Kashmir, bowing to international pressure for rolling back country's nuclear programme and cultural invasion by India and west through electronic media.
Addressing the Juma congregation at Mansoora Mosque, Qazi said that the MMA would also celebrate 'Kashmir Day' throughout the country, to express solidarity with the Kashmiris and their struggle against the Indian occupation.
"We do not expect the government to support the Kashmir freedom movement. Top Pakistani leadership bowed to international pressure and time and again has given indications of abandoning the ongoing freedom movement in occupied Kashmir.
However, it is the duty of every Pakistani to join the struggle and help the Kashmiris to attain freedom from Indian forces. "We ask all the patriotic citizens to join MMA in observing Kashmir Day and participate wholeheartedly in the mass contact campaign," he stressed.
Criticising the government moves aimed at normalising relations with India, he said that Pakistan in the past has made it clear on the forum of Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) that trade and other relations with India could not be normalised unless the issue of Kashmir is resolved. However, now the government is ready to start trade with India and is working on the plan of starting Bus service from Muzaffarabad to Srinagar.
If government went ahead with the plan, the Kashmiris from Srinagar would cross LoC on Indian passport and people from AJK would use Pakistani passports. This would establish LoC as an international border and would immensely damage the freedom movement in Kashmir, he added.
Qazi said that the US, which pretends to be an ally of Pakistan, is finalising deals on missile and nuclear technology with India while Pakistan is being pressurised on false charges of giving nuclear technology to Iran and Libya. "Amazingly, government, instead of refuting these frivolous charges, has taken up the stance that some scientists might have shifted technology at their own.
This is a conspiracy against the national nuclear programme and is a clear indication that government is bowing to Indian and US pressure," he alleged.
He was of the view that the offer from Indian Prime Minister Vajpayee to introduce single currency is also indicating that the government has made a secret deal with the Indian government.
