Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Tuesday advised the Ministry of Railways to increase speedy passenger trains and provide better facilities to the commuters.
He has also asked to improve the signal system to ensure fast journey during fog in winters.
The Prime Minister, in a meeting with Federal Minister for Railways, Ghaus Bakhsh Khan Mahar, said that Pakistan Railways needed to increase number of rolling stock including freight wagons and passenger coaches as trade activities are gaining momentum in the region.
He emphasised the need to bring the port city of Gwadar into railways network, as it would generate economic activities manifold.
Jamali discussed the extension of rail track to the city of Kandahar (Afghanistan) as part of the plan to extend rail access to the Central Asian Republics.
The Prime Minister also discussed electrification of Sibbi-Quetta railway Junctions.
The Prime Minister expressed that decisions of previous cabinet regarding revamping of Pakistan Railways would be implemented and necessary funds will be made available. The Railways Minister briefed the Prime Minister about the progress on dualisation of Lodhran-Khanewal railway track and sought provision of additional funds to complete the project by June this year.
Mahar informed Prime Minister Jamali that PC-I for dualisation of Shahdara-Rawalpindi railway track would be prepared this year and the project would be completed in stipulated time.
