Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has reiterated the firm commitment to make efforts for the stability and continuity of democratic system in the country.
The Prime Minister gave these remarks in a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Muhammad Yousaf, who called on him at the Prime Minister House on Tuesday evening.
Prime Minister said that with the adoption of 17th constitutional amendment, strong foundation has been laid for stable democracy. "We must continue our efforts for further consolidating the democratic institution, he added.
Jamali said that our commitment to socio-economic development is firm and total. "We want to transform the fate of the common man and to mitigate their sufferings, he stressed.
Referring to the media-development projects undertaken by the government in different areas of the country, the Prime Minister further stated that is was imperative to take the fruits of development to the level of an average Pakistani.
It is the essence of our development strategy, observed the Premier Prime Minister and urged the Chief Ministers to gear up their resources for the implementation of Police Ordinance 2002, in letter and spirit, so that the Police is made subservient to the pubic.
The meeting took a stock of current political situation in the country and discussed ways and means to put the country on sound political track. The Prime Minister noted with confidence that in the forthcoming NFC Award, the provinces will get their due share in the divisible pool.
The meeting also finalised the proposal for nominating the chairmen for the standing committees in the National Assembly and Senate. It was agreed that hardworking and visionary parliamentarians would be assigned these responsibilities so that they can devote their political acumen for ameliorating the people's problems.
The expansion in the federal cabinet and various proposals for Muslim League re-organisation and its re-unification also came under discussion.
