Children suffering from diabetes must be referred to qualified physician instead of an unqualified doctor and faith healers, because the symptoms may have been the onset of Type 1 diabetes which often results in instant death of the child.
These views were shared by the Paediatric Endocrinologist & Assistant Professor of Paediatrics Medicine at National Institute of Child Health (NICH) Dr Jamal Raza at a funfair activity on 'Diabetic Children Get-together' to create awareness about the spread of diabetes among children which is often ignored in childhood.
He said that 'Diabetic Clinic' at the National Institute of Child Health is providing all treatment and other complete services free of cost for the last four years.
"It has been observed that parents instead of getting their children hospitalised prefer to approach other spiritual healers, if their children were suffering from diabetes, which often results in the death," he observed.
He emphasised the need for proper treatment and care to save the children from awful effects of diabetes.
The event, including different performances from local actors, magic shows, puppet and painting competition, highlighted the importance to get the children diagnosed if any symptom of disease emerged, besides amusing the children suffering from disease.
The funfair activities are part of National Institute of Child Health efforts to highlight messages to take measures to prevent diabetes in children and to create awareness among the masses that early diagnosis of diabetes in children is better before any complications could endanger their lives.
Later, prizes were distributed among children.
