Punjab government has allocated additional funds of Rs 21 billion for revamping and promoting quality education in the province.
This was stated by Minister for Education Punjab Mian Imran Masood while addressing a meeting of the educationists from Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal districts here on Wednesday.
The minister said that government has also increased the annual budget from Rs 33 billion to Rs 43 billion in education sector. "We have to use all out efforts in making the government efforts success in order to attain the 100 percent literacy target", he said.
He called upon the educationists to devote their services for this noble cause and provide quality education to the students in order to make them useful part of the society. He said that the academic session of the college students must be completed and improve the results.
Later addressing a press conference, the minister said that thirteen thousand graduate teachers have been appointed at school level and forty thousand more vacancies will be filled after the permission of the Finance Department.
He said Punjab government has started providing books free of cost to the students from lst to fifth class and Rs 200/- scholarship monthly to the talented poor students for their encouragement and share the burden of the parents.
He said that principals of the colleges have been allowed to appoint teaching staff on contract basis.
