Federal Minister for Railways Ghaus Baksh Mehr has said that Pakistan Railways (PR) which is providing travelling facilities to more than 70 million people annually, is upgrading its systems to enhance its passenger handling capacity by starting new trains, computerising its reservation system and providing online reservation facility to travelling public.
According to a Railways spokesman, the minister while talking to senior railway officials said that the organisation is spending billions of rupees on upgrading the facilities for its passengers.
He added that already railways is operating with latest coaches, imported from China and is using them on Kakorakaram Express, Jaffer Express, Faisalabad Express and Sialkot Express.
Already the reservation system at Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Karachi City and Quetta have been computerised while work is underway to upgrade the reservation systems at Karachi Cantt., Sukkur, Rohri, Multan and Sialkot.
He said Railways is also working on the project of issuing computerised tickets and soon the passengers would have this facility at all the major trains.
