The Dubai based Emirates airline has unveiled a 20 feet long model of an Airbus A380-800 aircraft resting on a round about sponsored by the airline at Clifton.
The recently positioned round about will be known as "Emirates Square".
Tariq Hasan, Naib City Nazim, Karachi was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony.
He lauded Emirates contributions towards beautifying and revamping Karachi.
He also praised the airline for its policy of innovation in its fleet, one of the latest examples of which is an order now totalling 45 aircraft for the yet to fly "super-jumbo", the Airbus A380.
Also present on the occasion was Abdulla Nasser Abdulla, Vice-President, Emirates Pakistan.
"It gives me great pleasure to be present here at this momentous hour of inaugurating Emirates Square. Emirates airline share a very special bond with Pakistan, as it was our very first destination. Over the years, Emirates has flourished immensely in Pakistan. This is our way of giving something in return to the corporate community of this country," he said.
Emirates was the launch customer for the revolutionary A380 double-decker. The first of the 45 new A380 will join the Emirates fleet in 2006. Pakistan one of the Emirates first destinations after the airline was founded in 1985, is today one of its biggest operation base. It operates 32 flights a week between Pakistan and Dubai, 21 flights from Karachi, four from Lahore, five from Islamabad and two from Peshawar.
