District Registration Office (DRO) Attock has shown remarkable performance by providing Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) to 74 percent of the population having age of 18 years and above, says a press release issued here on Friday.
According to official data the DRO has so far booked 546,349 forms from the applicants for issuance of CNIC and out of which 532,883 cards have been delivered to them.
Attock district has population of 722,020 people who had attained age of 18 years and above and out of which 76 percent had submitted their applications for obtaining the new CNICs.
In addition, about 19,188 applicants have also applied to National Swift Registration Centres (NSRC) for provision of CNICs.
This NSRC is currently processing around 170 application in a day, which is also an outstanding performance.
The government has made the computerised ID card compulsory for passport and other legal documentary requirements.
It would also be a prerequisite for all basic facilities like electricity, telephone connection and bank accounts after January 31, 2004.
