The rupee moved slightly up versus the dollar in kerb amid shortened week as market observed four-day holidays on account of Eid-ul-Azha.
In the kerb market, the rupee was quoted at Rs 57.25 and Rs 57.35 versus the dollar. The rupee, however, lost nearly one rupee in relation to the euro for buying and selling Rs 72.61 and Rs 72.91.
In the inter-bank market, the rupee lost three paisa versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 57.45 and Rs 57.46, respectively.
Commenting on rupee's appreciation dealers said that the availability of dollars helped the rupee to move upward versus the dollar in the kerb market, dealers said.
Some currency analysts were expecting that the rupee might shed its strength in the coming days as a result of corporate demand for huge payments.
KERB MARKET: On Friday, the rupee gained five paisa against the dollar amid post-holiday session for buying and selling at Rs 57.25 and Rs 57.35, respectively.
Moneychangers said that normal business was not seen in the market as the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) had given a strike call to protest against the government's attitude toward Dr Qadeer Khan.
The rupee, however, lost 45 paisa versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 71.64 and Rs 71.94, respectively.
On Saturday, the rupee did not show major change in its overnight levels versus the dollar for buying and selling. It, however, lost nearly one rupee versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 72.61 and Rs 72.91, respectively.
INTERBANK RATES: On Feb 6, the rupee did not depict any big change versus the greenback and registered at Rs 57.42 and Rs 57.44 in the absence of major demand.
On Feb 7, the rupee lost two paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 57.45 and Rs 57.46, respectively.
