A delegation of Muslim Commercial Bank Employees Trade Union on Sunday met MMA caretaker president and chief of Jammat-i-Islami, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, and briefed him about the problems being faced by the bank employees, specially the low cadre staff.
The delegation, led by Union president Ehtasham ul Hassan, said that the owners of the bank were making two to three billion rupees annual profit from MCB.
However, instead of rewarding the employees, the management for the past seven years has adopted the practice of firing employees, especially low cadre employees.
Regular service officers from grade 1 to 3 have been terminated through a circular on December 30, 2003, and have been rehired on contract basis, which is totally against the rules and regulations.
Similarly, old employees have been denied their right of pension, which is equal to economic murder of hundreds of families. The bank during last seven years has not given promotions, has cut down medical allowance and stopped bonuses, he added.
Qazi assured the delegation that he would raise these issues at proper forum and would bring this injustice to light at the floor of National Assembly.
He said that the government during past several years has given many public sector institutions under the control of private sector which in the name of rightsizing has terminated majority of the employees.
This practice has created an economic mayhem for the families of the employees and has contributed in giving unemployment unprecedented hike.
He said that MMA and Jamaat-i-Islami fully support the workers of both private and public sector organisations and would continue to struggle for their rights.
