To address the issue of scarcity of drinking water, Pakistan army has completed various water supply schemes in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), said an ISPR press release here on Monday.
It is worth mentioning here that in the absence of any water supply scheme, the womenfolk had to travel miles to fetch water for their daily consumption. In most cases human and beasts were forced to take water from same ponds posing serious health hazards.
Therefore, to bring an end to the misery of people, provision of clean drinking water was accorded high priority in the uplift schemes launched by the armed forces of Pakistan, it added.
Water-related projects undertaken by the army include, installation of tube-wells, provision of dug wells, installation of hundreds of hand-pumps and construction of water supply schemes.
In addition to these, experts are busy in carrying out geological survey to identify the water table/source and also to identify mineral deposits in the area.
In Khyber Agency three water supply projects, namely Mishtra, Tabai and Sandhana, have been completed.
In Kurram Agency one scheme at Kimal Bazar and in Orakzai Agency two projects at Zargari and Chinar Kalay have been completed.
One water supply project, each at Jani Khel in North Waziristan and Angoor Adda in South Waziristan, is under construction.
In Mohmand Agency, where dearth of water is a major issue, water supply schemes have been launched at Kung, Anargai, Guluno, Mittai and Samghakai areas. A number of dug wells have also been constructed in this agency.
Hand-pumps are being installed as per the demands of the locals of the area. As many as 20 hand-pumps in Mohmand and Khyber agencies and 23 in Orakzai Agency have been successfully installed.
Work on 26 hand-pumps at North Waziristan and 16 pumps at South Waziristan has also been completed. Remaining 23 hand-pumps are also in the process of installation.
Similarly, work on installation of four tube-wells in Mohmand Agency at Faqirwala, Kung, Bagi Kor (Suran), Khana Pattai (Guluno), Mamad Gat and one tube-well each in North and South Waziristan Agencies has already commenced.
Installation of four tube-wells with the funds allocated by the NWFP governor has already been completed.
