One killed in clash with ANF

One man was killed in a clash between tribesmen illegally cultivating poppies for opium and an anti-narcotics squad in Balochistan, officials said on Friday.
An official from the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) said a helicopter carrying ANF troops came under fire from tribesmen on Thursday while conducting a survey of crops in the Tambo area, some 260 kilometres east of Quetta.
The ANF soldiers returned fire, wounding one man working in the field, he said. The man later died in hospital.
The official, who did not wish to be identified, said anti-drug authorities later destroyed the poppy crop, which covered about 50 acres.
The United Nations has declared Pakistan a "poppy-free" country, but officials say cultivation for the production of opium and heroin has resurfaced in the tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
