The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) on Friday kicked off anti-Musharraf drive "to remove him" from the power and to protest against humiliation, torturing of nuclear scientists, extra-constitutional steps of the present regime, pro-US policies, dearness, lawlessness, and unemployment.
Protest camps were established in all 114 districts of Pakistan which were attended by activists of component parties of ARD. Later, demonstrations were also staged.
"We are observing the week to remove Pervez Musharraf from power to save the country ('Musharraf hatao-mulk bachao') from today which would continue till February 20 to mobilise public opinion against the present regime which was doing everything for the pleasure of Americans at the cost of the country's integrity and solidarity," said Yousaf Raza Gilani ,vice-chairman of PPP.
"Our struggle would continue till the achievement of the objective of restoration of true democracy, supremacy of parliament, removal of 'uniformed' President," said Mehmood Qureshi, deputy secretary-general of PPP.
"Protest camps were established in Multan, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Lodhran, Vehari, Pakpattan, Rahimyarkhan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Leiah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Jhang, Bhakkar and Mianwali which were attended by more than 1000 workers each," said Habibullah Shakir, President of ARD, Multan.
The protest camp in Multan was attended by Ahmed Hussain Dehar, Habibullah Shakir, Khalid Hanif Lodhi, Khurshid Ahmed Khan, Rizwan Alam, Sham Awan, Saeeda Jamal Labar, Bilal Butt, Munir Langah, Nafees Ahmed Ansari, Mehmood-ul-Hassan, Tariq Raza Khan, and many others.
