The Steering Committee of Education System Reforms Assistance (Esra) has selected two union councils of Sukkur district as 'model literacy centres'.
The EDO (Education), Professor Rafia Naz Pathan, stated this in an Education System Reforms Assistance meeting held here at the DCO on Thursday, with District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah in the chair.
The district Nazim directed the participants to suggest proposals of awarding pay to the teachers.
The two union councils, Patni and Loung Bhatti, of district Sukkur have been selected as 'literacy models'.
The targeted age group is of 9-25 years and the sole objective is to increase literacy rate in this age group up to 80 percent.
The project period will be two years, which will further be bifurcated into four cycles. The centres will be established with a Deh-wise appointment of teachers.
The class time will be two hours daily, five days in a week, as per convenience of the community.
Forty-one literacy centres (17 for males and 24 for females) will be established for the two-year project.
The district Nazim directed the EDO (Education) to offer required incentives to parents so that they could be motivated to send their children in these centres.
