Chinese Foreign Office Spokeswoman, Zhang Qiyue hoped that Pakistan-India dialogue beginning in Islamabad on Monday would be successful in settlement of their outstanding disputes.
Talking to APP here she said the resumption of the dialogue process is a good omen for the establishment of durable peace and stability in South Asia.
"We appreciate the confidence-building measures recently taken by Pakistan and India," she said adding, "we hope these measures would lead towards normalisation of their relations, to live as good neighbours."
She said, "We sincerely hope that the two nations will resolve their differences peacefully through dialogue and jointly contribute to peace, stability and development in the South Asian region."
China has always called on the two countries, in the spirit of choosing peace over conflict, to end the confrontation, restore direct dialogue and to resolve differences in a peaceful way.
This, Zhang Qiyue added, is not only in the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples, but also in the interest of South Asia in particular and the Asian t countries as a whole.
China has always played a constructive role for the promotion and maintenance of peace in South Asia and the world at large. It has consistently pleaded for de-escalation of tension and resumption of Pakistan-India dialogue to address all outstanding issues including the Kashmir dispute.
China believes that Kashmir is an outstanding dispute left over by history that needs to be resolved through dialogue and consultation. The Chinese new leadership has also shown larger wishes to get involved facilitating Pakistan and India to settle their long-standing disputes.
