Secretary Education Northern Areas, Jamil Ahmed has said that strict action would be taken against the culprits who had torched the school buildings in Northern Areas and few persons had already been detained in this regard.
The secretary informed that seven school buildings were burnt on Sunday in Daarayle in Diamer district and mild explosive was planted to blast the building of one out of seven schools. All those schools were being run under the Social Action Programme.
The secretary hoped that the matter would be resolved and those schools would soon start functioning. Referring to a question, he said the population in those areas was mostly illiterate and the sad incidents happened due to confusion spread against the network of NGOs.
He said the silent majority of the area was in favour of the schools but a little segment was opposing NGOs and the schools.
He said that no big damage occurred in the latest incident and the school would start its operation from Saturday.
He further said a grand meeting "Jirga" was also being held in the area on Friday, February 20 in which public representatives, civil administration including chief secretary, IGP and advisor on education would participate. To another question he said, local community was also being involved in security related matters.
Jamil Ahmed said that it was a marvellous achievement that 382 schools had been established in Northern Areas in just few years.
