Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that the parliamentary system of the country is founded on solid basis and the elected government of PML is fast implementing socio-economic projects for uplift of the masses.
He asserted that the present elected assemblies would complete their constitutional tenure as these carry representation of all political powers in the country.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that a system of district governments has been set up to solve the problems of the people at the local level. He pointed out that under the dynamic leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf, practical steps are being taken to solve the real problems and national issues facing the people.
The Chief Minister made these observations while talking to a delegation which called on him under the leadership of vice president of German Parliament, Norbert Lammert, here on Wednesday.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that the present government is taking steps to ensure protection of human rights.
If any complaint of violation of human rights is brought to his notice, immediate action is initiated in that regard, he informed the delegation. He said Pakistani society is enlightened, education-friendly and desirous of peace and security.
The Chief Minister said that Pakistan is extending complete assistance to the nations of the world in maintenance of world peace.
He further said President General Pervez Musharraf has put the country on the road towards progress and prosperity by bringing it out of crisis.
"Islam is the religion of human rights, peace and security and tolerance and sectarianism and extremism is against its real teachings," he observed. Speaking about the education sector Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said a composite course of action has been chalked out for the promotion of education in Punjab.
He said that a stipend of Rs 200 per month has been initiated for the girl students in order to reduce the drop out rate.
He said the survey regarding paucity of basic amenities in the schools of the province has been completed and a detailed report has been compiled in this regard.
The vice president of German Parliament, Norbert Lammert, said that the pace of development in Pakistan has been accelerated a great deal and the elected assemblies are playing an active role in the consolidation of democratic process.
