Senior Democratic Congressman Jim Moran, from Virginia, on Sunday said Kashmiris should have the inborn right to self-determination.
Addressing a reception held by the Pakistani-American Democratic Committee, he said resolution of the Kashmir issue was vital for peace and stability in South Asia.
Kashmir and Middle East issues, he said must be resolved through peaceful means, on the basis of principles and fair play.
Rep. Jim Moran said he had opposed invasion of Iraq, for there was no danger to be posed by it - "Baghdad neither possessed weapons of mass destruction nor was it abetting extremists." He maintained that it was because of the machinations of special interests that Iraq was attacked.
Moran said since he openly opposed the Iraq war, proponent of Iraq war Ms. Kat Hantly was nominated for the seat, but once she declined, another alternate candidate Andy Rosenberg was then named for the seat.
Jim Moran is a renowned legislator and has won the Virginia seat for more than two times. He is known for his support to the Pakistani-Americans, who solidly back him.
Democratic Party's primary will be held in June in which his candidature will be decided.
He opposed discriminatory enactment against immigrants, saying new laws had made family reunions very difficult.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Manner Ejaz said like other US citizens, the Pakistani-Americans 'entertain similar concerns' and similar dreams.
Since Congressman Moran stood for support of justice and fair play, we would like you to use your influence in the Democratic Party to make peace between Pakistan and India part of the election manifesto of Democratic party.
