Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has directed that all ongoing water supply schemes under Annual Development Programme (ADP), specially in the rural areas should be completed by end of June 2004.
Addressing a high level meeting at Governor House on Saturday evening, the Governor also called for carrying out the ongoing construction and repair of roads in Karachi as per specified time frame and by maintaining quality.
The Additional Chief Secretary Local Government, Mohammed Saleem Khan, briefed the meeting about the progress made in implementation of ongoing roads and water supply etc schemes under the Local Government and other concerned departments.
The Governor directed that all schemes must be complete in all respects within the stipulated time so that people could benefit from them.
He asked the concerned officials to give more time in the field and personally monitor the schemes.
It was informed that this year Rs 11,000 million were earmarked in the budget for ADP out of which Rs 4526 million were allocated for District Governments and 6474 million for provincial level programmes with a share of 9.4 percent for local governments Katchi Abadi, Public Health Engineering and Special Development departments.
The meeting was apprised about programmes for dualisation of Karsaz Road, improvement and rehabilitation of Shaheed Sibghatullah Shaheed Road from National Stadium to Drive-in Cinema, construction, repair and improvement of road from Grax Village to Hawkesbay coast and details of other schemes.
The officials assured the Governor that work on schemes is in progress and would be completed within the stipulated period.
Details were also given about the progress achieved in respect of construction and improvement of Korangi Road from Kala Pul to Hino Chowk and from Qayyumabad Chowrangi to Korangi Crossing.
The Governor stressed on continuous monitoring of schemes for supply of water through pipeline in Tharparkar and other areas in the interior of Sindh. He said schemes of interior of Sindh should be completed on priority basis.
