Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has not allowed the initiation of Punjab Tameer-e-Wattan Programme (PTWP) in its jurisdiction as a result of some legal obstacles. In spite of having funds of million of rupees the board could not start the development projects in the area.
Sources told this scribe that Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Raja Basharat wants to open various development projects about construction of roads, streets and sewerage system and provision of electricity, water and gas supply to his people.
He got millions of rupees funds approved from the Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi but the RCB authorities have shown cold shoulder in starting the development projects, sources said.
They said that the constituency of Raja Basharat is in the Cantonment area and the RCB officials are not ready to use the funds the Punjab Government has approved.
There are some legal obstacles in utilisation of these funds for development projects in the Cantonment area that is why the board authorities are not ready to take into hand development projects and rejected these funds, sources said.
Law Minister of Punjab has decided to meet Corps Commander Rawalpindi, Station Commander RCB in order to get the work started on the development projects in the Cantonment areas, sources said and added that this attitude of RCB officials is causing lots of problems for the people living in the Cantonment areas.
They said that roads and streets in Misreal Road, Afshan Colony and other areas are in shabby condition and without streetlights and the RCB officials are not ready to renovate roads and take into hand other development projects.
