A consortium comprising City District Government, Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) and Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) agreed upon retrieval of sewage and drainage system of Lahore through a grant of Rs 790 million.
In this regard, District Nazim Lahore Mian Amer Mahmood, Secretary Housing Punjab Riaz Ahmad, head of mission of Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) Kayumi Shigetada, Director General LDA Akhlaq Ahmad Tarar and Managing Director Wasa Anam Qadir signed the document on behalf of their respective organisations on Friday.
Mian Amer Mahmood said that consultants of this aid-giving consortium have already completed fact-finding study about city's requirements for sewerage system.
They would submit a report to the Japanese government and after its approval, grant for launching a three-year crash programme for de-silting sewer channels and drains would be provided to Pakistan.
An automatic screening plant would be installed at main outfall pumping station for separating solid waste items from the liquid waste with a view to improving efficiency of the pumps and discharge of waste water, he revealed.
Four jetting machines, four sludge suckers, two water tankers, twelve pick up for transportation, eight dump trucks, two drag lines, two excavators, one large excavator, two generators and two wheel loaders would be procured for this purpose, he added.
