NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that health and education sectors are priority areas of his government and regretted that uplift works in these sectors are not up to the mark.
He directed the quarters concerned to remove hurdles and expedite work on these projects.
He was presiding over a high-level meeting here at the Chief Minister's Secretariat on Saturday morning.
The chief minister was briefed on the current ADP. The meeting, among others, was attended by Senior Minister Siraj-ul-Haq, chief secretary Ejaz Qureshi, additional chief secretary Mir Laiq Shah, finance secretary Zia-ur-Rahman and chief economist Zafar Azam.
The chief minister issued directives for bringing a marked improvement in the utilisation of funds allocated under various developmental programmes throughout the province.
He acknowledged that presently, the progress of work on projects was not up to the mark. "There are reports of under utilisation of resources that should be avoided," he said and directed for bringing improvement in the utilisation of resources.
"We wanted to put the resources for utilisation under the definite aim to develop the hither-to neglected parts of the province," he said and added the resources would be judiciously spent so that each part should have the fruit of development.
The chief minister directed the quarter concerned to get prepared for the next ADP. "The next ADP should reflect the real needs and requirements of all the areas of the province."
The officers of P&D and Finance Department should be sensitised to take on board the elected representatives of the provincial assembly for shaping the next ADP. He hoped by doing all this, the next ADP would reflect the aspirations of the people of the province.
He said that to ensure judicious utilisation of resources in the next ADP, he has started a series of briefings with DCOs so that all the districts could get their due share. He expressed his concern over the slow pace of fund utilisation and directed all the departments concerned to ensure proper utilisation of funds.
He further said that a data of official vehicles will be collected and old vehicles will be auctioned. He said that spare vehicles of different departments would be given to Barani projects and districts.
He said that infrastructure for agriculture/engineering cell will be designed for getting the Frontier's share from 600 bulldozers to be donated by China to Pakistan.
He further said: "In the three provinces, there are research wings of agriculture and engineering but in our province things are different."
He directed the P&D department to prepare suggestions for the improvement of communication sector and send it to the federal government. He also directed the department concerned to arrange briefings for the elected representatives on the on-going developmental projects.
