The Federation of Universities of Islamic World (FUIW) elected Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (Szabist) to the 15-member supreme executive council at its third general conference held at the University of Sharjah, UAE on March 9.
Governor of Sharjah Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohamed Al-Kassimi presided over the conference session.
Over 130 presidents, vice-chancellors and rectors of universities from Islamic world attended the conference.
Those from Pakistan who attended the conference including vice-chancellors of NED University of Engineering and Technology, Sindh University, International Islamic University and Azad Jammu & Kashmir University. Thirteen universities from Pakistan are members of the FUIW.
Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, secretary-general of FUIW, presided over the election of the executive council.
The FUIW is a body working within the framework of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Isesco), specialising in supporting universities and higher education institutions of the same level in the Islamic world and encouraging co-operation between them.-PR
