The Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan, Shamim Ahmad, has said there are bright opportunities for setting up joint ventures between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Addressing the members of the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here on Monday, he said strenuous efforts are being made to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries.
Shamim Ahmad said the purpose of these efforts was to bring a big boost in bilateral trade for enhancing the trade volume of both countries, adding that meeting of joint business council would be held in near future.
He said both Bangladesh and Pakistan are developing countries, and suggested that both brotherly countries should evolve an effective strategy to cope with fast approaching WTO challenges.
The diplomat said that a trade delegation of Bangladesh would visit Pakistan soon for ascertaining the possibilities for the promotion of bilateral trade as well as establishing joint ventures.
Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Tahir Majid Kapur, in his address of welcome, said the positive sentiments created by the recently held Saarc summit are a good omen for trade and industry of all the Saarc countries.
He said the signing of Safta in Islamabad provides valuable opportunities for promotion of trade among Saarc countries, adding it would bring revolutionary changes in economies of the Saarc member states.
We should discuss ways and means to enhance economic co-operation and trade interaction for mutual benefit of Pakistan and Bangladesh, he viewed. The visiting BD high commissioner also visited some local industries of surgical and sports goods.
