Members of the National Assembly from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) have rejected the extension of Sales Tax to the tribal area and vowed to resist it.
In a joint press statement issued here on Monday, Fata MNAs Maulana Muhammad Saddiq and Maulana Khalil-ur-Rehman have warned Islamabad-based bureaucrats to refrain from extension of sales tax to tribal belt.
The public representatives from tribal area said that Governor NWFP Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd) is taking practical steps for development of the tribal areas and the establishment of the proposed industrial estates is part of it.
However, they alleged that bureaucrats want to create misunderstanding between government and tribesmen through hatching the conspiracy of the extension of sales tax to the area.
The tribal MNAs said that federal government in the name of operation is killing and demolishing the houses of poor tribesmen and on other hand bureaucracy in Islamabad is increasing their problems through extension o sales tax.
They made it clear that government should refrain from extension of sales tax otherwise, they said, the residents of the tribal areas will resist it.
