PML (N) leader Pervaiz Malik MNA has said that the US announcement about declaring Pakistan a non-Nato ally is mere a gimmick.
"Being the non-NATO ally, Pakistan would have to make a major foreign policy shift and might have to stand against its traditional allies while supporting the Nato coalition if this status is formally approved," he pointed out.
Talking to a party delegation here on Thursday, Malik stated that Pakistan would be an additional chip in the Nato's hands and "it is more likely that Pakistan would lose sympathies and support of non-Nato countries."
"Pakistan before moving into any direction should consider pros and cons of the decision and also have consultations with the OIC and China," he said.
He urged the OIC and Chinese leadership to fully support Pakistan, as US, for serving its own objectives, is also ready to declare India as its non-Nato ally.
"War against terrorism has taken a new shape and there is no al-Qaeda network working anywhere in the world," he said, adding, "there is no Saddam in Iraq and no Mullah Umer in Afghanistan but still some Western powers and US are threatening to make aggressive advances towards many sovereign nations in Asia."
Pervaiz Malik said: "This situation is alarming hence the regional powers should be careful before they make a decision about making new friends in the West".
