Indian Defence Minister George Fernandes on Saturday rejected charges of human rights violations in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, saying that whenever such incidents had come to light, Indian government had taken appropriate measures to counter them.
Coinciding with crucial second round of talks between the government and a faction of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Fernandes said: "Wherever human rights are violated, strong actions are taken and when you take action every one will get right message."
The APHC had charged that Indian government had not taken up human rights violation issue in occupied Kashmir seriously. The Hurriyat leadership had accused the government of not reining in Indian security forces on this score.
Fernandes further went on to say that cross-border infiltration had come down in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and added that fencing along the Line of Control (LoC) in occupied Kashmir was progressing at full speed to further reduce this problem.
He also said peace is prevailing along the LoC and troops on both the sides are in harmony.
