Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday he hoped for a positive outcome from Cyprus peace talks even though all sides say they have objections to a revised UN plan to unite the island.
Earlier on Tuesday, the talks cleared their first hurdle when Greece, Turkey, Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot delegations said they wanted negotiations to go on after seeing the fine print of Secretary-General Kofi Annan's plan.
"Contacts will continue today," one UN official said at the Swiss Alpine resort of Buergenstock where talks have been in progress for a week.
"With a win-win understanding, we hope to have a positive solution from here," Erdogan said in a press statement after Turkey submitted their views to Annan.
Before Turkey and the other parties had made their submissions, Turkish media had warmly welcomed the new proposals while the Greek press angrily denounced the plan as a sell-out of the larger and richer Greek Cypriot population.
