The Ministry of Health has nominated Ilyas Nainitalwala as member of the sub-committee for tariff rationalisation of pharmaceutical sector for the budget 2004-05.
The Experts Advisory Cells of Ministry of Industries and Production has constituted a sub-committee for tariff rationalisation of pharmaceutical sector for budget 2004-05.
The Director General Health is the convenor of the sub-committee. The objective of this exercise is to formulate practical and desirable proposals to address all aspects of federal taxation ie customs duties, central excise duty, sales tax and income tax in co-ordination with CBR, with the objective of making the local industry competitive both in the domestic and international markets, and discouraging the tendency of seeking tax and tariff preferences instead of finding solutions in productivity enhancement, validation and quality improvement.
The committee will also play an important role in finding solution for other cost elements such as energy cost etc.
Ilyas is already Senior vice chairman of FPCCI standing committee on pharmaceuticals.
