Kohinoor Energy Limited (KEL) was incorporated in April 1994 under the Pakistani laws, with the aim and objective to take part in the prosperity of the country through power generation.
KEL having paid-up capital of rupees 1,695 million is a joint venture between Saigols Group of Companies a well-known multi-industrial group of Pakistan and Tomen Corporation an eminent consortium of multi-industrial undertakings of Japan.
KEL is situated at 35-KM Link Manga Raiwind Road Lahore. It is one of the pioneer projects of Independent Power Producers in Pakistan.
The principle activities of the Company is to own, operate and maintain a furnace oil power station with the net capacity of 120 MW (gross capacity 131.44 MW). WAPDA is the sole customer of KEL.
The main equipment at power complex includes three ABB 63 MVA step-up Transformers converting the Electrical Output from 11 kV to 132 kV, Eight WARTSILA Diesel 18V46 Type Diesel Generators having rated capacity of 15.68 MW each and a Combined Cycle Heat Recovery System capable of delivering an output of 8 MW through Peter Brotherhood UK Steam Turbine.
VISION: To lead as Independent Power Producer (IPP) and O & M contractor, serving the nation through power industry.

The executive secretariat supported by the Board of Directors of the Company comprises of the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operating Officer, is in-charge on the whole for execution of operational and business strategies at KEL.
The Company heading towards the integrated quality management system has achieved the three Internationally Recognised Standards ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:1996 and OHSAS 18001:1999.
These achievements have made the KEL the First Power Producer in Public & Private Sectors in Pakistan, which owns such certifications.
The sagacious and dynamic leadership blended with the Pakistani and Japanese expertise in operations and administration of power plant, steadfast dedication of the team of qualified engineers and professionals at plant and more than this the ability to "Make it successful" has made KEL's name among the most triumphant IPPs in the country.
And today KEL is playing a vital role in contribution to the power supply for the domestic and commercial needs for brighter and prosper Pakistan.

M NASEEM SAIGOL CHAIRMAN KEL: Mr M. Naseem Saigol the Chairman of the Board a prominent business patron is the son of late Mian M. Yousuf Saigol one of the pioneer industrialists in Pakistan.
He is the founder director of KEL
Inherited from his father the loyalty with the country's prosperity and his enthusiastic desire to contribute for meeting the power shortfall, which the Pakistan was facing in the early years of 1990's, Mr Naseem Saigol came up with the initiative to establish a power generation company for supply of electricity to WAPDA.
Under his leadership the Saigols Group of Pakistan having experience of running the existing captive power plant at Faisalabad city, joined their hands with Tomen Corporation of Japan and consequently they formed and established KEL as an Independent Power Producer.
Besides the power generation undertakings he having entrepreneurial approach has played a pivotal role in contribution to the GDP of Pakistan by establishing various industries and businesses, which includes the Chemical industry, manufacturing and assembling of home appliances, motorcycles, Textile spinning and weaving, and commercial banking.
He has always emphasised on application of good corporate governance at all levels of KEL.
He is characterised as entrepreneur, an inspiring leader and strategic planner who extends valuable services and guidance to the Board of Directors giving a profound impact on its direction and effectiveness.
HARUYOSHI MURAKAMI CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER KEL: Mr Haruyoshi Murakami a national of Japan is serving as director of the Company since May 1995.
In January 2002 he was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Company.
He has been the president of Tomen Power (Singapore) (Private) Limited as well as the Divisional General Manager of Tomen Corporation Japan.
Alongside the technical competencies he has a strong potential to administrate the power plant and owns an international exposure to govern the power plants in various regions of the world including Japan, China, Philippine, Indonesia and Singapore.
The KEL under the leadership of the CEO, has won the trust of International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the ABN Amro Bank the lenders of the Company and enjoying a successful partnership with WAPDA and good relations with other stakeholders including Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Wartsila.
The best compliance of the applicable statutory and regulatory laws and fulfilling the contractual obligations are among the priority areas of the CEO at KEL.
He is a symbol of Japanese interest in business partnership with the Pakistani counterparts.
Being the Chief Executive Officer of KEL he has ever strived for the best return to shareholders' trust that they have employed in the equity of the Company.
And in addition to the distribution of 30% bonus shares to shareholders in the year 2001, the declaration of the three dividends totalling to 45%, within a recent period of one and a half year exhibits his excessive enthusiasm for returns to shareholders of the Company.
UMER MASOOD TARIQ CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER KEL: Mr Umer Masood Tariq the key member of the executive secretariat is also working as director on the Board of KEL.
Mr Umer, an anchorman having abundant operational and management curriculum is playing a key role and is a bridge of trust between the joint-venture people of Japan and Pakistan at KEL.
His winning of the trust of Japanese counterparts is an honour for the other Pakistani business professionals.
The inborn administrative and managerial competencies and dynamic leadership qualities of COO decor the KEL with three Internationally Recognised Global Standards, which is a visible demonstration of his commitment in assurance of quality management system, environmental excellence and care to employees health and safety, at all levels.
